Welcome to Markinch Community Council

Markinch Community Council (MCC) covers the area bounded by the A92T from Balfarg to the Leven, the Leven to Balgonie Castle, field boundaries to the Kennoway road (including Brunton, Barnslee and North Lodge, but excluding Dalginch), the Star Road to the main railway, the railway to the Network Rail access (private road) (including Newton Cottages), that private road and the Star road back to Balfarg.

The main settlements covered include Markinch, Balbirnie, Toft Hill, Prestonhall, Newton, Barnslee, Brunton, Balgonie Furnace, Middle Mill and West Mill. The MCC area is now within one four-member ward - North Glenrothes, Leslie & Markinch.

Our work is mainly in the field of planning. This varies from considering individual planning applications, e.g. for a dwelling to have double glazing in a conservation area, to inputs to wide-area plans such as the Fife Structure Plan.

Our role is to represent the wishes of the people in our area, principally to Fife Council, but also to Fife Constabulary, Fife NHS, the Scottish Executive and so forth. To do this, we have eleven elected members, together with such additional co-options as we may make. Fife councillors representing our area are automatically ex-officio members of MCC. We also have regular input from, e.g., Fife Constabulary, Markinch Heritage Group and Fife NHS.

We also have web space on the Fife Direct website.
